Friendship turns costly: Bengaluru student caught in Rs70 million scam

## Trust Leads to Trouble

An engineering student in Bengaluru is facing legal issues after his bank account was allegedly used in a cyber fraud scheme involving Rs70 million. The student, who attends a well-known engineering college, had been friends with a man named Ayush for about a year.

## Misuse of Bank Account

In November 2025, Ayush claimed his bank account was blocked and asked the student for temporary access to his account for financial transactions. Trusting his friend, the student provided sensitive banking details, including an ATM-linked SIM card and net banking credentials.

## Discovery of Fraud

Months later, the student was alerted by his bank about suspicious transactions totaling nearly Rs7 crore. The bank account was immediately frozen, and the student realized his account had been misused for cybercrime.

## Ongoing Investigation

A police complaint has been filed, and investigations are underway to trace the money and identify those involved. The case is being handled by the North Division Cyber Police Station.
